Mahesh Punjabi designs a lavish second home for an industrialist, where opulent materiality cavorts with textures…
Sensitive to the client’s mindset, accustomed as he is to a palatial 20,000 sq. ft. bungalow in Delhi, the designer excellently orchestrates the short-stay sojourns of the homeowner in this 1550 sq. ft. carpet Mumbai high-rise by using the same luxurious lifestyle and indulgent living as the focal loci of design.

A neutral colour palette of beige, brown and gold with strategic touches of black makes for a rich undertone, whilst floor-to-ceiling windows bring in sweeping panoramic views of the skyline. The living-cum-dining with exquisite marble-topped dining, floor rugs, crystal chandelier and artifacts and accessories avers to the homeowner’s tastes and worldviews, whilst the bedrooms and bathrooms are distinctly culled out for the finest in personal comfort.

Right from the entrance door, which is edged with metal rose-gold trims, to the matching door handle, to sensor-operated LED lights; an artificial fireplace that exudes flames, smoke and wood-crackling sound; a modular kitchen that boasts of solid wood internals for the drawers complemented by velvet-silky laminate on the shutters… every minute detail is attended to with panache.

State-of-the-art built-in appliances and wardrobes, crystal chandeliers in every bedroom; motorised window drapes; lighting completely automated on sensors, camouflaged storage… make for functional resplendence. Not a single wall is painted; instead walls are panelled with leather, onyx, mirror, satin-finish mirror, wallpapers and accessories acquired from Philippines, China, Italy, Bali and the client’s personal collection from Turkey!

The headboard in every bedroom boasts of rich, distinct textures making them one of the highlight features. From Montana leather, chenille fabric, rose gold profile…the list goes on, indeed creating a well-appointed home with a wow factor.

Adding grandiose to the entire schematic is a customised peacock panel in brass casting with enameled colours that endorses the subtle reiterations of glamour that give the home its signature charisma!
