A design palette that addresses understated glamour

Tadao Ando stated that “I believe that way people live can be directed a little by architecture”. Ar. Archana Shah designs this residence by not just manoeuvring contemporary living ideas but marking a posey for timelessness. 

The Patel residence is an interior design project that is pivoted around the client’s simplistic perspective of residing in an abode that has a subtle touch of glamour while it sports a contemporary approach.

Using a diligent mix of textures and contrasts, the open plan of the house crafts subtle intimacy right from the perfunctory entrance vestibule, through the living, the open-kitchen and dining volume, to the private quarters. Light-toned walls, fine textured wooden surfaces, panelling, a partially-vented false ceiling, cove lighting and a blend of complementing décor aspects complete the understated aura of the home.

Geometrical forms take the onus of adding spunk to the interiors. In the living area, a triangular stacking centre table-set and a boldly patterned floor rug are complemented by a boldly carved wooden screen that defines the separation between the living and the continuing dining space as much as it creates a sense of curiosity from the entrance.  

The greys and whites of the kitchen add a touch of novelty and sophistication, rounding off the ambience and the contemporary vibe with the supple design of the extended breakfast counter.

The bedrooms too are simple in composition. It is the juxtaposition of more with less that maintains the balance. For example, light-weight elements in metal viz., hanging display shelves and the like add a sense of balance with the staid and sturdy. Another evident marrying feature in the entire design collaboration is the sophisticated inculcation of artistic accessories that streak the ambience with shades of warm vitality.

Ar. Archana Shah truly strokes her skills to create a residential design that portrays the modernist classical style without resorting to anything conventional; thereby ascribing to the claim for contemporaneity.
