Anagram Architects reinterpret the quintessential indulgent character of the present-day bungalow on this 900 sq. m. Noida plot.
Designed for a nuclear family on the cusp of becoming a multi-generational household, the residence is a composition of stacked, low density volumes that face a private lawn - one that commands views from the structure’s various outdoor rooms, the verandahs and the sit-outs. With a successful mix of private and public spaces and a balance of aesthetic elements, the architects recreate the allure of a luxuriant bungalow on this modest plot to render a lasting first impression.

A simple program of four bedroom-suites and family spaces is accentuated with the lawn that rises to form a walkable rooftop. One angled wing houses the formal living and dining, while the other tucks in its informal counterparts, the family room and sit-outs. The verandah, a colonnaded, uninterrupted buffer space positions itself along both levels of the front-lawn façade, providing privacy and a thermal break between the recessed rooms and the outdoors.

Inspired from traditional roll-up blinds and fixed trellises that help control glare, porcelain tiles in tints of green hang from a minimal steel lattice to shade the verandah - their pattern being a response to the solar angles incident on the façades and the optimum daylight and thermal comfort levels required indoors.

Initiating a dialogue between levels, geometrical patterns and playful colours emphasise the continuity of spaces indoors, as the architects lend new meaning to luxury living. With its design expressing as much a lifestyle as it does the style, this contemporary residence seamlessly integrates with outdoors and reflects the diverse tastes of the users.
