Fashion designer Payal Khandwala amps up the beauty and multi-functionality of the traditional sari by launching a line of reversible saris.
Admit it. Each one of us has tried to reinvent the same sari by bringing in clever accessories, draping the six yards a bit differently each time for a dash of oomph; even stitching a new, trendy blouse to amp up the fashion sweepstakes. Sensing the tacit need to sass up the Indian wardrobe essential, maverick fashion designer Payal Khandwala lends a noveau spin to the traditional by creating her own edgy line of reversible saris: Gemini 2018.

Call it a modish reinvention of sorts. Remarkably simple too, given the versatility of the Indian garment. You flip the sari to gift yourself a new one, in seconds. Each piece is a veritable work of art, carefully hand woven in mulberry silk and cotton. The colours rush through eye popping scarlet to moody sapphire, glossy chartreuse, java brown, sooty charcoal, mulling magentas and many more.

Payal has lent a curious spin to the accessories as well to get you to create a new look. Charging ahead on the best of waste anthem, the designer has fashioned an assemblage of handmade pleated flowers (recycled from studio waste). You can bring in the fun element by tweaking these in with your hair strands in a casual, tousled bun. Endearing plumage. Then there are boho chic Tachi arm cuffs fashioned in stainless steel and brass for that winsome metallic edge.

Fierce and fabulous, undoubtedly.
