A
luxurious 7600
sq. ft. Delhi home designed by Design Cosmos packs a plush character into a low-maintenance
home…
The home sits on a
corner plot with three sides open, two of which open into vistas of the
neighbourhood parks. Thus, the spatial plan maximizes window openings in every
area and attached balconies urge the user to step out and be closer to nature.
With both
architecture and interiors executed by Design Cosmos; the entire house has
state-of-the-art automation, which makes operations hands-free. In terms of
zoning, the parent’s room, guest bedroom and formal areas occupy the lowermost
floor; whilst, the upper floor has the master bedroom and both kids’ bedrooms in
addition to a small lounge to entertain close friends. Other areas include a
multi-purpose room and lounge-like seating spilling over to and overlooking the
terrace for larger get-togethers. A water body here adds freshness and makes a
seamless visual transition to the parks abutting the plot.
Like
most homes, the entry is through a lobby at the stilt floor level, which is
used primarily for parking. A grand double-height living space bathed in
natural light from tall slit windows overlooking a park greets one, directing
upwards. This double-height space acts as the core of this house and becomes
the lifeline of the residence due to its central location as well as function.
Since the clients
wanted to avoid any overly loud appearances and retain simplicity; design
interventions are incorporated very subtly ensuring visual comfort as the eye
transitions from a predominantly neutral palette to pops of colour – in the living
area (blue), bedroom (rich purple), bathroom (golden yellow) … Use of striated
marble adds a distinct narrative via the dining table top and the
marble-enveloped bathrooms. A touch of whimsy in the panelling, mirror inserts
that hint at a play of reflections…and other understated elements add an innate
richness to the decor negating the overt use of anything opulent or
deliberately add-on.
Filtered into the
ambience is a play of planes and uninterrupted wraps, as horizontal and
vertical lines are juxtaposed to cull out the ambience; stone and mirror are
wrapped to veneer and PoP, Italian marble seems to seamlessly envelope the
flooring and the stairway across the three levels; vertical wood fins along
the double-height opening wraps into a pergola at terrace level, whilst an MS
pergola wraps with the front and side elevations seamlessly transitioning into
wood and stone.
Thoughtful design
and attention-to-detail contribute to a beautiful home that is warm and
welcoming, yet uncompromising on prime aesthetics that befit an abode of this
stature.
