Architect Narayan
& Associates’ deft handling of space, flamboyant use of corporate colours
and hierarchical allocation through design infuses vibrancy into the HT Media
office at Lower Parel, Mumbai…
The opportunity came in the
form of approx.13 ft. ceiling height, awesome views of the city and an enviable
location, while the challenge was to creatively design the interiors fit for a
media company.

Working with a large area
of 35,000 sq ft, the architect first sectionalized the functions - administrative
and editorial; next he introduced hierarchical allocation with senior
executives placed at the periphery and the staff pool in the centre. This tried and tested design tenet, which has
every alternative cubicle opening into the central core ensures ample
daylighting and addresses the need for open spaces.

The brand and sub-brand’s
corporate colours viz. yellow, orange and purple animate the space,
establishing a sense of belongingness. Potted planters add a touch of green
while a large green replica of a hockey field with a hockey stick across it that
reads ‘Let’s make history’, underlining the motivational ethos of the media
company.

Space is skillfully magnified
through rustic-looking vitrified tiles and wooden flooring juxtaposed against
lighter-hued veneered furniture; see-through wooden partitions and reflective
surfaces in the lift-lobby area, etc. Negative spaces are well defined, creating
an illusion of spaciousness.

The overall design is more
overt with major onus on the variegated ceiling design: plain gypsum with
textured design in the reception; frisbee-like colourful plates and circular
light pendants in the cabins and recreational rooms while an open ceiling
characterizes the workstation area further accentuating the spatial volume.

Defining pleasantness and
cheer, the entire project evokes a diligence through details.
