In a global scenario, where “glocal” (global; yet, local) firmly anchors its fundamental place, Indian architecture is all set to grab eyeballs and leave its mark.

Considered as the world’s largest and most influential architectural competition, the World Architecture Festival (WAF) and its sister concern, the INSIDE Festival receive a whopping number of entries each year. In 2019, India has been riding big on the competition with 36 entries, out of which 50% - 16 to be precise, have made it to the final shortlist.

With 534 award finalists from 70 countries; 33 award categories from WAF and 9 from INSIDE besides 7 special awards, the WAF will see live presentations by each of the finalists during its three-day sojourn at Amsterdam in December 2019, where the finale will announce the winners.

Speaking to Ar. Sanjay Puri, one of the two jury members from India (the other being Ar. Sonali Rastogi from Morphogenesis), we garner that the top three criteria for judging included: contextuality, path-breaking aspects of the project, and sustainability. With India in full form as a global participant, we keep our fingers crossed now as we wait with bated breath for the winners to be announced this December 2019. Will India make a mark as any of the big three – World Building of the Year; World Interior of the Year and World Future Building of the Year?? Stay tuned…
