Mumbai-based architects Samir Raut and Shahveer Irani have come up with an innovative award-winning design for a compact household bar.

“Every object around us should be designed with an aesthetic sensibility,” says Shahveer, and so, Bar 23 was designed keeping in mind the aesthetic appeal of a compact unit for some of your finest spirit bottles.

Made of solid Burma teak wood and detailed in marine MDF (medium-density fibreboard), this free-standing unit 6ft high x 2ft wide x 12 inch deep,  is housed on sleek tapering legs and fitted with hardware made in-house. The handcrafted unit is finished with a faceted front and opens to shows an all-mirror paneled interior – an urbane backdrop for the spirits that also gives an expansive appearance to the otherwise compact unit.

The entire wood panel is made from a single log of wood and is “finished with a finesse that makes it a piece of art in itself”, says Shahveer.  The surface has been finished with matte sealer, which highlights the inherent rich colour of the wood. The unit has a double leaf opening on the top and a flap down ledge, held by brass chains, to be used for mixing drinks. The main body is connected to its fine, narrow fork-legs with brass stubs.

The combination of finely polished wood and brass, indeed, makes the unit a stylish inclusion in a tastefully done interior. The product is tastefully designed for both, functionality and ornamental purpose.

Workshop No-w-here is planning more furniture pieces such as storage units/chests, chairs and light fittings. “In the future, we are also looking to explore into designing objects like table clocks”, adds Shaveer.
