Evolving from carnage of shipwrecked metal, the interiors of Prost Beer House in Bengaluru, India, make it an attention-grabbing drinking hole…

With a tight budget as the driving force behind the design, the architect came up with an industrial theme and scouted for scrap that would be inexpensive as well as provide a unique ambience to the 6,000 sq ft, 3-level beer brewery.

“Since it is a beer brewery, all the tanks, meters, gauges, pipes, etc., connecting to it, acted as inspiration and formed the central design of this 300-seater bar,” says Aamir Sharma, partner, AH Designs.

With no singular characteristic style, AH Designs is known to imbue each project with a character of its own. Owing to the complex nature of the space, converting a South Indian restaurant into a beer brewery within the existing structure, not only proved challenging, but time consuming.

The ambience spells raw pastiche that exudes a strong masculine vibe. Exposed brickwork, steel plates on the flooring, jail-like jaali, and prosaic furniture, décor created using nuts, bolts and spanners further adds a untreated, industrial feel. However, being exclusively a bar, it is able to attract the right clientele, who can unwind amidst this rugged environment.

Interestingly, in the double height area, over 100 taps have been fitted with bulbs, while the brewing tanks have been left exposed and lit up.

Overall, the mainstay is a 5 ft. jagged-edged blade that goes through a beam. Use of stools, garden instruments, spinning saws, pipes, rustic metal sheets and many other forms of metal consolidates this grungy look and feel — making it a ‘tough guys’ zone to enjoy cold beer on the tap.
