When an architect is given complete freedom and flexibility in designing a home, it shows. This lavish South Mumbai home reflects the client’s love for entertaining and plush lifestyle…
The crux of the design concept revolves around the use of sky blue colour within the home. “It was challenging to balance the same in complete absence of a natural wood tone,” say principal architects Krupa Zubin and Zubin Zainuddin of ZZ Architects, who have opted for solid grey colour as a base to anchor various shades of blue in the home.
In continuation of this concept, sensibilities in selecting light pendants, furniture and art works play along the central theme. So we have an apartment, where the lobby is illuminated with a light blue crystal chandelier, living and dining space highlighted with blue and grey suede sofas and a blue back-painted dining table with contrasting grey designer chairs; a master bed accentuated with an onyx base and walk-in wardrobe finished in large sliding mirror frames, visually doubling up the volume of space.
Maintaining “an artist flow”, materials merge and diverge, simultaneously allowing the eye to appreciate and move on… Equal importance is placed on the interiors and the peripheral openings, to harmonize and approach the luxurious feel of the spaces.
Designer product touches in the furniture, light fittings, and accessories are strategically used, without being overbearing or pompous. Several little things like silver frames, white lacquer in the walk-in wardrobe area, etc., are indicative of the level of detailing.
Perhaps, the only space that deviates from the overall subdued palette is the convertible area with the design vocabulary of a private study that can metamorphose into a TV or guest room as the need arises. With an orange study table and a sofa-cum-bed finished in a matching hued fabric, the room comes alive.
This project thus defines the client’s sophisticated yet easy-going personality and reverberates with the same vibe.
