LABEL Ritu Kumar –Identity India

Her style and the ability to take Indian aesthetics and craftsmanship and translate them into contemporary silhouettes are unique attributes that crown the Ritu Kumar brand. With over 35 stores across the country, both her haute couture and prêt collections epitomize Indian identity in a global spectrum. 


From a small workshop in Kolkata with just two tables and four block printers, Ritu Kumar has come a long way crediting her  craftsmen and employees as much as her foresight, hardwork and dedication in establishing her signature across allied verticals like accessories, western apparel, footwear and jewellery in order to give her clientele a holistic designer experience.

Her ability to create fashion oriented international products is commendable. Since 2002, her sub-brand Label has provided a perfect amalgamation of products that offer contemporary young Indian women a brand with Indian aesthetics but global influences. The current Label Spring Summer Line recreates the magic and simplicity of art deco that exemplifies a mastery of graphics with an aesthetic message and is a beautiful mish-mash of feminine creations. Colours such as coral, red, black, blue, green, pink, yellow and beige form the base of the creation, and the playful yet elegant patterns enhance the uniqueness of each piece.

Using motifs and mood from the art deco era, the collection that boasts of a variety of dresses, jackets, tunics, pallazos and vibrant sling and clutch bags, brings to life a contemporary design language that draws inspiration from the art and architecture around us. Lending a dramatic character to the look being presented, accessories from Label are made in some of the hottest shades including chrome yellow, white, black, tangerine and charcoal black with aztec and feather prints.
