Summer is here; and with the heat, it also brings in a lethargy that can be driven away with vibrant tones, pastel hues and a touch of lightweight fabrics around the home.

Now is the time to drive out the blues and welcome the sunshine. Changes in texture and colour are the two primary influences on our mindset during changing seasons and we bring you several practical tips on how you can make the most of them this season…

.
  • Remove all heavy fabrics: curtains and upholstery - lush velvet and plush fabric from around the home. Buy yourself a new set of curtains - sheers and cool cottons – you get some very trendy stuff these days - and loose fabric covers in pastel shades.
  • Use light colours: Whites and soft pastels. Bring in the outdoors – include colours like green, pink and blue into the home.
  • Project a clean uncluttered look: Take away all doilies, table runners and generally a lot of place mats. With the heat, the dust also accumulates and this is going to be harder to deal with than the hot weather!

  • Revive indoor greenery: Bring your plants indoors for a while everyday to keep them healthy. Use cold water from the fridge to revive your indoor plants.

  • Rearrange: your furniture to make the space more open; your cupboards and cabinets for easy access to lighter clothing and everyday essentials. Check perishables to avoid musty smells and dampness.

  • Spruce up your bathroom: with sunny colours and bring the freshness in. Keep sprays at hand and naphthalene balls / air fresheners to beat the smells!

  • Spread happiness & cheer: Spray a nice room freshener – bring in the aroma of the flowers. Better still. Bring in a lot of bouquets and arrangements of fresh flowers.

  •  Do not use too many lights. Let the natural light flow in.

  • Do not leave wooden tables exposed. Cover them with a bright flowery table covers. They will offset the heaviness of wood.
  • Do not neglect routine dusting – it will keep away the dirt and grime. Cobwebs tend to form faster and look uglier during the summer. So make sure your fans, walls, doors and especially your windows are well kept!
