Group DCA embrace myriad design sensibilities to style a residence in Sainik Farms, Delhi using the unconventional artistic taste of the client as their starting point. Richly detailed, the residence provides a visual feast with intrigue in every corner…

This project holds a lot of nostalgia for us as it is not often that a client approaches a designer with a free rein to experiment and fashion an unusual space. The team at group DCA consider themselves fortunate to have worked with this client, who while explaining the idiosyncrasies of his unconventional artistic bent, conferred his complete trust on us to harmonize the finished whole into a comfortable inviting home.

Only one thing was certain - minimal structural changes. Hence, the major challenge faced in the project was to refurbish the existing false ceiling with our design. It was also decided to retain existing doors and windows.

The aesthetics of the completed home are a fusion of multiple design elements merged into one space while simultaneously celebrating each object's individuality. It can be described as a marriage of ideas enhancing and complementing one another, giving birth to a unique balance.

The home abounds with an array of textures, colours and materials. To cite a few examples, a wall decal with the silhouette of a tree looms large against the staircase outfitted with a trendy MS sheet railing; rusted MS sheets find creative use in the back unit and bar counter over which are suspended cleverly designed pendant lights made from lassi glasses with antique gold finish. Used beer bottles are recycled to tailor an eye-catching screen close by. Custom graffiti by an artist in the basement foyer follows an unusual theme of industrial pipes, whilst the room also features a compass made in vinyl on the floor. Custom designed furniture augments the quirky theme as one sees the use of Corian juxtaposed with wood in the entrance foyer, back-lit onyx and a carved ceiling among other elements that sync in eclectic harmony.

To sum up the experience of this striking residence; "It is the cultivation of many thoughts fused to form one story."
