Studio Design Cosmos culls out a green office for a construction company in Gurgaon, responding to the growing need for sustainable spaces…

The ground-plus-three building located in the heart of Gurgaon is high on both, functionality and aesthetics. The crux of the design lies in engaging elements that lower the building’s energy consumption. The sustainability-focused design employs rainwater harvesting techniques, solar energy generation and recycled materials; the orientation provides maximum natural light to functional areas and the modernist façade sports louvers to control solar penetration. Through the confluence of design styles and material usage across floors, the office shapes a healthy working environment.

The entrance to the 25,000 sq. ft. corporate office boasts a double height volume, its linear character accentuated by materials that wrap around the walls and ceiling. Against it, fish artwork adds a fluid overlay to the rigid space. The work floors radiate a rustic modern vibe with the use of exposed brick, wood veneer, cement tiles, ceramic mosaic and exposed ducting elemental in their conception – a fact that avers to the role of raw material in a construction company.

The rectangular layout rationalises organising ancillary areas along the periphery. The library marks its identity through a wall-length metal book rack with semi-open shelves and a zigzag flooring pattern, composing a calm and minimal space. The floors maintain their connection to the outside by way of a landscaped terrace.

The director’s floor personifies luxury and sophistication - warm tones, full height panelling, black mirror ceiling and Italian stone cladding creating a seamless aesthetic. The board room, with its white walls and suspended helical installation symbolises purity of thought and powerful decision making. Finally, the terrace is a space for unwinding, the break room serving as a discontinuity from the monotone - a playful yet sophisticated quality that relays its relaxed character.

Expressing identity through workspace design while addressing evolving work culture and with an inherent respect for the environment, the warm and welcoming spaces convey a strong contemporary undertone, leading by example that sustainable design can be responsible without being mundane.
