Luxe appeal comes from a strategic eye for colour and pattern in this home by Ar. Manish Dikshit

Ar. Manish Dikshit designs a sophisticated apartment in Mumbai using the intrinsic beauty of marble and veneer to work his magic…

A subtle colour palette of white, beige and brown with an undertone of gold forms the backdrop against which diligent space planning, abundance of natural light and a minimalist design style are the supporting pillars, but the cynosure is the floor-and-wall treatments coupled with bespoke accessories.

As one steps into the residence, one can’t help but notice the uninterrupted, flowing expanses of stone-clad surfaces as striking beige Burberry marble constitutes the interior envelope of almost the entire home. Strategic touches of champagne gold, St. Laurent black marble, naturally weathered grey bur oak veneer, white Corian, etched glass and bespoke elements like a laser-cut jaali pattern in Australian white marble, a wall with a fluted effect;  a dining table with copper back-painted glass top, a bench with a tall chesterfield backrest and deep-seated furniture in vibrant pops of colour… draw out the luxe quotient.

Cultural rootedness coexists with modern lifestyle as a simple mandir sits near a cosy privy nook with a wooden jhoola and a couple of chairs on a chevron-patterned flooring. 

Keeping individual tastes in mind, each bedroom culls out a specific aesthetic, whilst a common palette anoints social spaces.  For instance, the master bedroom is designed with a juxtaposition of warm walnut veneer running from the wardrobe shutters onto the ceiling, augmenting the room height. This is further amplified by the tall chesterfield headboard. Statuario marble wraps the master bath with sleek B&W sanitary fittings.

Likewise, the daughter’s bedroom takes on a completely different character with the design choice following Scandinavian minimalism, both in terms of colour and material palette. In the shower cubicle of the bathroom, Prussian blue handmade tiles are placed as bands that run neatly across the floor, instantly alluding to youthful charm. 

Larger-than-life artworks and artefacts infuse drama and liven up the overall space - making this a home that discerns the needs of its occupants and provides them exactly what want.
