Seeking that something extra to stand out in an haute-restaurant arena like Mumbai, culture-loaded Talli Turmeric – yet another bespoke offering by designer Sumessh Menon rises to the calling…

Talli Turmeric at the Atria Mall in Worli embodies its essence by its very name. The fine-dine defines a brilliant explosion of taste, flavour, aroma and colour exemplifying the magical madness that is Indian cuisine.

Characterised by a bespoke material palette that constitutes semi-rustic, industrial-urban elements like custom terracotta bricks, wood and artwork that represents Indian culture, the use of Turmeric, an inevitable part of Indian cuisine, translates into the design and décor by using its colour as the design fulcrum.

Cheery yellow terrazzo flooring with chunks of Jaisalmer stones binds the entire 4500 sq. ft. anointing it with a grey, coffered, backlit, acoustically treated ceiling. Vibrant artwork on the live-kitchen wall as well as the customised motif wall fabricated entirely in FRP reflects the vivacious ethos of creative Indian culture. The use of terracotta bricks and roofing tiles endorses the Indian influence of materials.

A layered wooden panelling etched with intricate Indian scenery and wooden furniture with colourful printed furnishings lend the perfect touch of warmth to the space. A custom-designed ten-foot long terrazzo communal table that stands in the very centre of the space with a stunning light installation hovering over it, marking it as the highlight feature of the eatery.

But the cynosure of all eyes is the 50-feet long showpiece bar that displays floral motifs with fluted wooden corners and a rich yellow travertine stone top.

All in all, Talli Turmeric’s stand-out design not only complements the menu and the concept but is refreshingly and unfailingly different from similar-positioned restaurants in Mumbai.
