As the year draws to a close, we look back at the most-heart-warming, most-empathised-with, most-exhilarating of the 338 stories that we've brought to you all through the year 2018...

We theorise, pragmatise, thematise even...slot design to perceive it. Many a time, you, as the reader fall in step with our perception; at other times, you deduce what you see fit. Either way, you record its impact. Team IAnD collates the top three stories of the year 2018 that have touched the lives of people - the fraternity and masses alike - for different reasons perhaps, but with definitive responses of commendation.

Here are most-appreciated stories of the year 2018 - one each from each of our sections – Inditerrain (India), Global Hop (rest of world) and Product Hub (product marketplace).

Topping the list of the 255 design features and 83+product promotions that IAnD brought to you all year around, is the international terminal building for the Guwahati airport designed by Design Forum International. Designed in collaboration with a team of 15 design and consulting firms, the project has been the most-read and the most loved feature of the year.

Perhaps it resonated well with mass sentiments as travel is as integrated to life as any of our other basic needs of food and knowledge. The fact that the airport is designed more as an experiential space curating a series of moments and experiences for the travellers rather than being a mere luxurious transitory station, has the votes jingling in its favour. Being contextual in its make-up has been its most engaging factor.

KnitCandela - Section

In times that are rife with technological progress, Zaha Hadid Architects and ETH Zurich’s incredibly thin concrete shell, built on an ultra-lightweight, knitted formwork that can be suitcase-condensed – KnitCandela takes on the mantle of the most favoured feature, especially among the fraternity.  Designed to coalesce expertise in the fields of computational design, engineering and fabrication, the project is a demonstration of the advancing possibilities that digital design and fabrication offer and the synthesis of these techniques with traditional craftsmanship. Whether this footprint will be taken to different levels of implementation, only time will tell.

"Drawer Organiser hafele indiaartndesign"
Häfele’s drawer organisers

Simplicity and simplification speak of the realm of the spiritual. And when this simplicity comes in tangible form and is appreciated en masse, the product celebrates a huge success story. Häfele’s new range of drawer organisers in their distinct finishes - plastic, wood, and stainless-steel capture instant appeal with their elegant and high-value inserts like cutlery trays, plate organisers, container holders, knife holders and more. What’s more, they can be accommodated in standard cutlery drawers and high-fronted pull-outs and this is where the popularity of the product takes over!
