Shabnam Gupta of The Orange Lane enlivens the terrace of an artist's studio with delightful balance and much flair.
Known for her visually appealing, expressive and personalized spaces, Shabnam Gupta designs this duplex with a blend of inimitable accents and contemporary elements, exclusive to the artist’s personality and lifestyle. She captures the sentiment perfectly throughout the home, even as the interior flows fluidly to spread out onto the terrace.
To enhance the existing site conditions, exposed brick cladding of the façade wraps around the terrace as metal and glass screens open into the interior spaces of the home. Designed as an alternative to an internal, spiral one, an elegant metal staircase with a glass railing and wooden balustrade leads from the terrace to the level above.
The use of rough stone flooring and plaster complements the natural, effortless setting. A smart, space-saving, vertically landscaped wall visually unites the two levels while accounting for and wholly balancing the greens in the design palette. An antique art piece embellishes this wall, adding drama to the lower entry space. An alcove across the stairs accommodates the seating, while an adjacent space with a rug and wooden table complements this formality.
Against the brick façade, technical and custom-made decorative lighting fixtures help achieve a soft, warm ambience at night. Colour is introduced through materials, landscape, lighting and the casual arrangement of quirky elements – the red metal chairs, the blue-tiled centre table, the matching blue awning and the perky furnishings.
With a masterful amalgamation of colours, textures, art and accessories, Shabnam Gupta creates an undeniably charming space that makes one want to jump in and relax already!
