Slip on a jacket on your kurta, team it with your brogues or button up for casual chic… Jackets have made a comeback with flourish!

Button Up
Remember the trim Virat Kohli in the famous clothing commercial? Go traditional with the Nehru jacket. “Jackets look best on loose silhouettes to add definition,” says designer Chandni Sahi. “Go for khadi, or satin, leaving the first button undone for a cooler look.” Designer Natasha J says, “Button up for formal events. For a sangeet night, keep the buttons open and show off a contrast kurta.”

Colour Code
Says fashion designer Kunal Anil Tanna, “Powder blue, lemon, peach or pastel pink make for an elegant look during the day. For parties, choose midnight blue, rich purple or emerald green. Jackets look sharp in ivory or shades of beige, but avoid contrasting colours with the rest of your attire.”

Style File
“Slip on raw silk, khadi, bamboo fabrics... in vogue in lighter shades. The shirt jacket is popular, with leather jackets hot on the winter circuit,” says Lina Mane. “Shimmer and metallic shades work beautifully for parties,” says Natasha. “Choose linen, men’s suiting fabric, cotton variants... Go with a bomber jacket; or a single or double-breasted jacket with a twist of lace/ print for quirkiness.”

Sharp and Chic
“For day wear, stick to cotton or linen or spun silk in light textures and then for evenings, heavier textures in patchwork, quilting, smocking. Raw silk or jute in a classic button down or embroidered buttons looks stylish. A bandhgala, or a waistcoat bundi jacket works great. Jackets look best on a kurta and Aligarhi pants, in off-whites. Try shirts with pleated pants, short kurta with flat front pants…” says Kunal

Length Matters
“Your jacket should sit at your waist line. A longer jacket makes you look shorter,” says Natasha. Says Anoli, “The jacket should sit right on top of your hips. You can wear it longer if you want, but never shorter.”
So, take your pick and add a spot of charm to your winter dressing.
GREAT FASHION IN ETHNIC
ReplyDeleteYes I do.. all old fashion comes back and it’s designer who change some part of it and flaunt it.
ReplyDeleteAnd if I talk about traditional Indian jackets they are new avatar and can be seen wearing both by girls and boys. I seen girls wearing it with their sarees, contemporary style. And yes if you can carry it you will rock.
The jackets can be found in various designs, color and stuff which makes them cool and can be mismatch with your outfit.

Of course they have, giving you that bohemian touch they are definitely heating the market up and is a style statement for some.
ReplyDeleteSo yes they have made a comeback, but I believe it’s temporary because fashion is something that keeps on changing every now and then something which is in trend right now, might become outdated maybe a few months back & the same thing will do a comeback after years. There are many examples of the same too:-
Bell bottoms or Flared Jeans, Turtle Neck, Fringe, Sports Bra, Overalls and many more... ... in response to IAnD's discussion on Quora regarding "Do you think that traditional Indian jackets have made a comeback in new avatar?"
