Love rugs but are reticent about how to use them? Here is a wee guide to help you perfect your rug style!
The selection of
the rug depends on the style of furniture, the colour and contours of the room,
surface finishes and any wall adornments. In the picture above to the left, the
minimalist furniture and chiseled wall surfaces are balanced by the central
luminaire that adds certain elegance to the entire composition. What can be
better than a neutral toned silk rug to complete the picture?!
On the other hand, the picture on the right has an exuberant wall with heavy yet monochromatic furniture. The balance is struck by the white fleece rug that brings certain geometry to the entire arrangement.
Rugs are the ideal element of contrast. If the walls or the furniture are dark coloured, a light yet neutral shade of the rug will be perfect.
For the bold, who seek a challenge, here is another situation where the multi coloured rug or durrie adds to the riot of colour, juxtaposed by the blocks of furniture.
For those looking for harmony in their living room and think monochromatic rugs to be cliché, geometric designs are in vogue. The combination of colours on the rug can be balanced by or mirrored in the walls and furniture, thus producing a beautiful ensemble.

Pastels’ being a
personal favourite, the rug above is definitely one for all seasons! One can
never go wrong with muted and earthy shades. This is the LBD of rug styles, I
must say!
So, what’s your
favourite?
