Sporting a slickly-earthy ambience (if one could call it that), well defined symmetry in wire-cut brickwork anoints the envelope that is partially industrial-like with an exposed-services ceiling.

Conceptualised by design studio, Between Spaces from Bangalore and executed by Rahul Associates, the club and its adjoining restaurant, Jonathan’s Kitchen are part of a larger hotel building, occupying a site that admeasures 55’ x 86’ x 19’.

Complementing the restaurant in its colour palette and ethos, the club animates a centrally-positioned 20 ft long island bar counter in its 1500 sq. ft. ground floor; and a 500 sq. ft. steel-structured mezzanine area for more private occupancy.
Spatial fluidity is maintained via an entrance foyer that leads to the two hospitality venues, instantaneously creating a dramatic element of surprise with the verticality of each of the spaces.

At Komatose, the vertical volume is ably juxtaposed by the linear island bar that is the cynosure of all eyes. Besides the bespoke bar stools around this island, table-seating, a semi-circular bench with a plethora of throw cushions and lounge seating adjacent to the external glazing, comprise the other comfort options, inviting people to unwind.

Resonating the theme of “comatose – to pass out”, mood lighting is catered to via ambient wall washers and a bespoke huge sculptural light fitting of the same size as the bar counter, made in hot rolled sheet and perforated metal sheet and suspended over the bar!

As the bare burnt brick walls in their gorgeous decorative bonds end, the eye is directed softly into the black exposed ceiling that makes the entire volume seem larger than it really is, echoing the vivid colours of the furniture and other interior elements.

Heavy drapes falling over the external glazing add warmth and privacy to the space as the pseudo-rich palette of polished cement, teakwood, black granite, and American walnut veneer panelling contributes to the textural nuances, resonating with the undercurrent of the thematic.
