Kids-Happy!

Grabbing eyeballs, bright cubic blocks in colours of red, green, blue and yellow spell out ‘Kidzappy’, a salon for adults and kids in a prime Mumbai suburb.

Spread across 750 sq. ft., the salon with its dark grey concrete-finished floor tiles, peppy lime green walls, dark lilac ceiling and black river-wash granite storage units, sports a fun, friendly, yet professional appeal.

Aesthetically designed and creatively styled by Dynamic Designss’ Aanuu V. Thaakur  - who has over 15 years of experience working for “corporate clients and homeowners who’re in search of innovative, low-cost solutions” - the place is both sophisticated for adults as well as funky for kids.

Keeping in mind the two sets of target customers, seating caters to the grownups with conventional, comfortable, black salon seats; while the kids get to sit in especially imported “styling chairs, which are in the shape of their favorite cartoons such as Angry Birds, Barbie Mustang and Lightning McQueen cars, which even go up and down”.

Adding further appeal for the young patrons, colourful bulb-holders in the shape of bees and birds hang on the walls and large sunflower-shaped ceiling lights anoint the kids’ styling section. In contrast, simple halogen ceiling lights are used for the adult customers. Besides the artificial lighting, the place has a lot of full-length windows for direct daylight.

As if the vivacious colour palette, animated lighting and an aquarium wasn’t enough for the kids, a playroom with a Jungle Book-themed wallpaper and laminated wooden flooring has a brightly-painted open cabinet, which resembles a wooden Lego blocks structure that stores books, iPads and games, besides and over-head plasma TV for children to entertain themselves with while their parents get their services done.

Kidzappy is quite a fresh concept and has been innovatively designed, keeping in mind fine little details - from clean lines, vibrant colours and matching cushions in the waiting lounge to thought-provoking behavioural tenets at play in design.
