A 2,500 sq ft, four-bedroom
apartment on Altamount Road, Mumbai, has been converted into a three BHK to
enhance its spaciousness quotient…
The fulcrum of the design is
centered around creating a comfortable and contemporary lifestyle for a family
of four based on design tenets like simplicity, subtle sophistication, textural
play and clean lines.

Taking this concept
forward, Neesha Alwani and Shruti Jalan, principal architects of n+s devised a layout that
offered maximum space opportunities. For instance, as one enters the apartment through
a long passage like vestibule, the living room lies to the left while the
kitchen and utility area lie to the right; tucked away at the end of the
passage. Getting in the outdoorsy feel is the balcony, which lies adjacent to
the seating area of the living room.

Sophisticated utilities in
the form of tan leather sofas, cane furniture, potted plants, marble panel
backdrop, dark polished wooden dining table and crystal chandeliers add charm. Accents of bright and bold
colours jazz up the otherwise subdued overall colour palette, while the smooth
cream marble flooring flowing through the house holds it together.

Neutral toned walls become
a wonderful canvas for displaying numerous eclectic art works and accessories; highlighted
by a combination of indirect light and ceiling spots.

The interplay of dark paneling
against bright flooring continues from the living room into the master suite
while in the master bath juxtaposition of a milky basin counter against a
mirrored panel reflects light and adds volume.

In the children’s bedrooms,
a sense of playfulness is ushered in viz. bold colours, textures and greenery.
Interestingly, wall shelves in the shape of tables and an orange spiral storage
unit are highlight features.
Fittingly, the house not
only looks after its members’ requirements but also enhances their lifestyle
quotient.
Ultimate!
