Every festive
season brings on a range of expenses – some needed, others wanted. This season,
I advocate permanence and sheer delight as against transience and beauty.
So, when you’re
looking at bringing in a change in your interiors this season, I would suggest
doing something that has more longevity. A stunning light fitting; an ornate or
very contemporary mirror perhaps; an old jali,
spray painted in a copper hue with touches of German silver that transform it
into a very trendy-looking ‘current’ piece of decor, and so on...

One has the tendency to spend on things that one throws away after use. But how about investing in this ‘highlight feature’? While it could be a piece of furniture or lifestyle accessory like a cutting-edge vase design or even a rug that you’ve eyed for a long time; it could also be in the form of a treatment to something old to give it an absolutely new avatar. For example motifs, decals, wallpaper, stencil, vinyl design-oriented stickers could be used on the walls to give them an absolutely unique vocabulary. Or Duco paint a piece of furniture a bright yellow or silver... for that stop-them-in-their-tracks effect!

In fact, why not explore your experimental skills at the entrance? Entrances are, after all, quite significant, especially during the festivities and herald the celebratory note of the home, so why not try out a small patch – you could be experimental with your design and even if you do go a trifle overboard with it, it doesn’t really matter as it is only a niche application.
Another “talking
piece” that I would recommend would be mirrors and reflections. Create a
kaleidoscope of light, reflection and flowers – an astounding combination that
will not only augment the celebratory mood but usher in timeless cheer into
your home.

Best wishes for a very Happy &
Prosperous Diwali!
