Indian fashion continues to make innovative forays on international runways. Indo-French fashion label Lecoanet Hemant’s latest LED inspired collection titled ‘Luminocity’ marks a notable stopover in the Bonjour India 2013, to be held in Delhi next week.

Franco-Indian designer duo Didier Lecoanet and Hemant Sagar are busy putting finishing touches to their latest collection that glows with LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes).

As part of Bonjour India 2013, a festival of Indo-French cultural events that is scheduled to be hosted in 15 cities across the country starting Feb.14, 2013, at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, the collection will showcase a special line of unique pieces titled ‘Luminocity’.

In its second edition, Bonjour India is a celebration of Indo-French relations with its major focus on encouraging collaborations between Indian and French artistes in the fields of art, education, literature, cinema, fashion, photography and science.

The LED dresses, which are to be a part of a larger light show, are more conceptual, sculptural, wearable pieces of art. Says Hemant, “For our installations, we have taken inspiration from the beauty of the satellites. Lending a feel of astronomy and outer space, the installations reflect iconic Indian imagery from daily life, mythology, arts, culture and heritage projected into the future. The installations comprise of 8 main outfits complemented by 12 smaller ones to depict the satellites orbiting one another.”

The 20-odd pieces are created using translucent synthetic fabrics and technical light-diffusing materials mounted on metallic structures that are fixed with industrial techniques. “Indian fashion is mostly an interpretation of our country’s rich cultural heritage and in the present day it’s all about re-inventing the original styles with contemporary looks,” say the designers.

The designer duo is known for their unique blend of eastern classic and western chic; a blend that won them the Golden Thimble (Le De d'Or) almost a decade back, the only honour for Haute Couture till date. Launching their exclusive denim and casual line called “Genes’ is next on the anvil for this pair.

  1. We've had LED in promotional clothing for a while, but it faded out. It is still available on custom if you want it. The problem is no one really wants it unless it's for a one off event. I think you'll find the same thing, it may look neat the first few times, but the person wearing the dress will wear it only once. The trend of this and other LED clothing items I think would lead more towards advertising and product launches. Unless of course you are totally self-centered and always want to be the lite of the party.
